GMAT FORUM:
I've taught the GMAT exam
for eight years, and I take the test very seriously. I usually
work only with the very best students in Los Angeles, and my philosophy
has always been that if you're trying to get into B-school and you
aren't in my class you're my enemy. That's because my job is to
help my students beat you and take your spot at Wharton.
Fortunately, my students have made their way into every top business
school in the country.
If you hope to get into a top school, you too will have to be serious about the GMAT. You don't have to ace it, but the reality is that people who don't score within about 70 points of their target school's reported median are rarely accepted. How To Use This Tutorial I'll be developing this tutorial over the coming months, adding sections on the structure of the test, the strategy you should use when taking the exam, the best format to use when writing the GMAT essays, and detailed sections on the math and verbal questions that appear on the exam. While I can't get my whole curriculum into this Web site, I hope I'll be able to answer some of your questions and help you avoid the most serious mistakes students make on the GMAT. I'll also answer questions submitted by readers, including questions about the changes we've seen in the test since it went to the computer format. As you may have heard, the math curriculum has changed so that strong test takers are seeing more combination, permutation and probability questions than they ever saw on the pencil-and-paper version of the exam. (Perhaps even more surprising has been the very recent inclusion of problems that combine permutation and probability concepts.) The verbal curriculum has also changes slightly to include a new type of critical reasoning question (which is actually just an old type in disguise). We'll address all of these topics as I develop the GMAT Forum section of this Web site over the coming month, and I'll begin answering your questions at the end of July. Look for those answers in the Q&A section. Be sure to visit this site regularly before taking the exam.
